What’s the best way to stay safe on a holiday road trip?

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Taking a holiday road trip can be quite a bit of fun, but only if you make it to and from your destination without incident.

The last thing you want to think about is being part of a motor vehicle accident during the holiday season. Unfortunately, if you’ll be traveling during this time of the year, you won’t be the only person on the road. And even if you’re doing everything right, another driver could make a mistake.

Here are some of the many tips you can follow to stay safe on your holiday road trip:

  • Inspect your vehicle before you leave so that it’s in condition to get you to and from your destination without incident
  • Remove distractions, such as placing your smartphone in the glove box and programming your GPS before you hit the road
  • Remind your children (if you have any) to behave in the backseat, as you don’t want them to become a distraction
  • Know what to do in the event of an emergency, such as an accident with another vehicle

There is no guaranteed way to avoid an accident during a holiday road trip, but these tips can definitely put your mind at ease as you get behind the wheel.

If you are part of a crash, move your vehicle to safety, check everyone for injuries and call 911. Once you receive treatment, you can learn more about the cause of the accident and who was at fault. This could lead you to seek compensation from the negligent party for medical expenses, lost wages and more.
