How do you drive safely in fall rain?

On Behalf of | Oct 16, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

With the fall season here, you know that a rain storm could move into the area at any point. If this happens while you are behind the wheel of a vehicle, you need to immediately adjust your driving habits.

Here are some of the steps you can take to drive safely in fall rain:

  • Adjust your way of thinking. It’s easy to get stuck in the same habits as a driver. You need to change your ways if the rain begins to fall.
  • Use your headlights. This makes it easier for you to see the road. It also makes it easier for other drivers to see your vehicle. In some states, headlights are required if you are using your windshield wipers.
  • Slow down. The faster you drive in the rain the greater chance there is that you could hydroplane at some point.
  • Don’t use cruise control. As convenient as it may be, this is a big mistake in the rain. You need to maintain full control of your every move, which means turning off cruise control.
  • Watch for other drivers. Even though you may adjust your approach in the rain, it doesn’t mean that other drivers will do the same. Some people will continue to drive just like it’s sunny and dry outside.

These are just a few of the safety tips to follow when driving in rain during the fall season.

If you are part of an accident, maybe because another driver lost control of his or her vehicle, you should move to safety and call 911. Once you receive medical treatment, it’s time to learn more about your legal rights.
